Lung disease is extremely common and potentially on the increase.
• It affects one in seven people in the UK resulting in over 24 million GP visits a year at an annual cost of £500 million in the UK alone.
• Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) (an umbrella term for a group of lung diseases that include chronic bronchitis, emphysema and small airways disease) is the fifth biggest killer in the world. Every hour COPD kills over 250 people.
• COPD is on the increase and is expected to be the third leading cause of death by 2020.
PneumaCare is working on innovative technologies to improve the quality of diagnosis and outcomes for those suffering from lung disease, and in particular the considerable numbers of patients who are unable to benefit from the current techniques for monitoring lung function.
